Here’s what you’ll learn in a Stop the Bleed course: Applying Pressure with Hands: You’ll discover how to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound, effectively controlling bleeding.
Packing a Wound: Learn the technique to pack a wound to stop bleeding.
Correctly Applying a Tourniquet: Understand the proper way to apply a tourniquet to prevent further blood loss.
By mastering these three techniques, you become an immediate responder, capable of making a life-or-death difference during a bleeding emergency. The person next to a bleeding victim may very well be the one who saves their life.

Also covered during this training will be “Hands Only” CPR and choking response.
This training is open to all ALCO VOAD partners, their staff and their community members. This is “in-person” training.

This course is designed with nonprofit employees and volunteers, and other interested community members in mind. The entire community is invited; preparedness is for everyone!
About this Event
Join us for FREE, interactive courses to learn about disaster preparedness needs specific to the East Bay. This it’s open to the entire community.
Prepare U 2022 is designed to be appropriate for everyone, and will focus on personal preparedness, organizational preparedness, government & organizational coordination, and much more.
Each course topic is designed to work independently, however we encourage participants to attend all sessions, if possible.
Class will meet once per week, every Tuesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, beginning 2 August, and ending 13 September.

Agency Emergency Preparedness (Tuesday, August 9)
“Your Name Here” – Preparedness for Community Groups (Tuesday, August 16)
Incident Command System (ICS) for Community Responders (Tuesday, August 23)
Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) – Two Days (Tuesday, August 30 & Tuesday, September 6)
Panel: Alameda County Government / Community Based Organization Coordination (Tuesday, September 13)
Topics may shift or adjust as needed.
Lead trainers: Lars Eric Holm, the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for Eden I&R/ 211Alameda County and Ron Halog, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, ILRSCC (Independent Living Resources of Solano & Contra Costa Counties).
There will also be Special Guest Panelists who will be presenting on specific topics.
Ron Halog has been in the non-profit world for over 35 years, and has been a trainer / instructor for over 30 years; training First Aid, CPR, Water Safety Instruction, Lifeguarding and Emergency Preparedness.
Lars Eric Holm has been involved in disaster preparedness since 2008, previously serving as the Senior Community Educator and IT Specialist, for CARD – Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disasters, a nonprofit based in Oakland California.

1) Ron and Lars Eric sharing about a recent “targeted violence” train-the-trainer”
2) Open forum: sharing success stories and needs during Covid. – How have you pivoted for omicron? – Did you have reopening plans, and have they changed? – Obtaining tests and test kits?
3) Briefly talking about loss of power needs.
4) Future of ALCO VOAD – What kind of topics would you like to see addressed in 2022?

Be on target with your preparedness efforts!
Learn to navigate the “Circles of Preparedness,” starting with your own personal preparedness and safety, then moving outwards to your agency’s preparedness, then learn how to form an awesome response teAM using the fundAMentals of Incident Command System (ICS) for Community Responders, and finally see a panel about how to partner with government agencies to form a powerful whole community response. There will be focus will be on preparedness for Access and Functional Needs (AFN) populations, because preparedness is for everyone!

Why Should You Attend?: ALCO VOAD has quarterly general membership meetings & trainings to bring voluntary organizations (non-profits, churches, emergency response – First Responders) together to promote the mission of cooperation, coordination, communications and collaboration. Part of each meeting is devoted to getting to know the various organizations in the county and the services they provide. By learning about other resources, we can make strong connection now, instead of during crisis.
